I have been told my account is compromised – what now?

You may be contacted by IT support (If you’re a student via your form tutor) and informed that you need to use a new password as your account has been flagged as compromised.

Why is my account compromised?

You may have accidentally entered your password into a fake login dialogue or have used the same username and password on a website or service that has user details leaked. Our system will pick up that unexpected login attempts are occurring and that your account might not be secure anymore.

VPN – Virtual Private Networks

Your account can also appear to be compromised if you are using a VPN on your personal device whilst also accessing school services. We advise that you do not use a VPN whilst logging into school systems, otherwise we will be alerted that your account is being accessed outside of the UK and might be known to a thirdparty.

What do you do when alerted?

When your account is flagged as having suspicious activity logged on it and we can see that the user’s password is known we will reset your password and make contact with you directly or via your form tutor if you are a student.

What do I need to do?

Once alerted by IT, you need to set a new password on your account that you have not used before.
