Authenticator – Resetting Authentication Method

This guide will show you the process of resetting your authentication method to be able to setup the “Microsoft Authenticator” app.

This process will apply if you have previously setup the app on an older device and are trying to sign-in on a new one (i.e., you have a new phone). Or you have been advised by the IT team to start using the “Microsoft Authenticator” app.

Step 1:

Download the “Microsoft Authenticator” app from your device’s app store. This will likely be either Google Play or App Store.

Step 2:

On a separate device, such as a laptop or computer, navigate to: https://www.office.com/?auth=2

And sign-in using your work account login.

Step 3:

Once signed into “https://www.office.com/?auth=2”, click the icon on the top right of the screen which shows either your staff photo or your initials.

In the pop-up box that appears, press “View account”.

Step 4:

A new tab will open, showing a brief account overview. From here, press “Security Info”.

Step 5:

This step is only applicable for staff who have previously setup “Microsoft Authenticator” or “Phone” SMS authentication. If you are setting up for the first time, move to the next step.

Another tab will open showing your sign-in methods. Find the “Microsoft Authenticator” and/or your “Phone” method and press “Delete”.

Step 6:

Click on “Add sign-in method” and then press “Authenticator app” on the drop-down box.
