Microsoft – Staff Resetting Student Passwords

This guide will show you the process of resetting a student’s school account.

This is the account they use to sign into school devices and to access their emails.

Step 1

On a staff laptop or computer, navigate to: https://www.office.com/?auth=2

Step 2

Once M365 has opened, left click the “Admin” icon on the bottom left of the screen.

As highlighted in the image below.

Step 3

The admin center will then open. Search for the student and left click on their account when it appears.

Step 4

A student profile will then appear to the right of the screen. Once opened, left click the “Reset password” button.

Step 5

From here, you can then either create a new permanent password, create a temporary password or automatically generate a password.

Please note, we advise against using a system generated password, due to the complexity of the passwords created.

Creating a Temporary Password

To create a temporary password, untick “Automatically create a password” and type a new temporary password in the dialogue box.

This password is single use, once the student signs-in, they will be prompted to create a new one themselves.

Creating a Permanent Password

To create a permanent password, untick both boxes and type a new password for the student in the dialogue box.

This password is permanent and can only be changed by a member of staff.

Step 6

Once done, press “Reset password” and let the student know.
